Meet the Marionette Line Team

This site is led and medically reviewed by Tongchun Mao, MD, who performs facial and lifting surgery here and who is responsible for the medical content. The other three physicians contribute what an assessment of the lower face often needs: the center’s surgical standards and revision experience for the lifting operations, the skin and injectable planning that decides how much volume is sensible and in what steps, and the dermatologic diagnosis of conditions around the mouth that are not ageing changes.

Tongchun Mao

Tongchun Mao (毛彤春)

Deputy Director & Head of Aesthetic Surgery · Vice Chief Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending · Lead Physician of This Site

Lower facial ageing · volume, descent and the jawline · the mouth-corner muscle and what it recreates

Dr. Tongchun Mao is an aesthetic surgeon at Chongqing West District Hospital, where he is Deputy Director and Head of Aesthetic Surgery in its Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center and the responsible physician for this site. He personally performs more than 700 operations a year, within hospital standards of assessment, anaesthesia and follow-up.

On this site his part is working out which of the three mechanisms is doing the folding. He looks at the fold at rest and in movement, at where the tissue above it has ended up, at the projection of the chin in profile and at the bite, because a fold created by descent is answered by a lift, one created by volume loss by staged volume, and one created by muscle pull by reducing the pull. He keeps a record of what has been placed in the area and when, treats the lower face as an area where material accumulates rather than disappears, and says plainly when the honest endpoint has been reached. His stated discipline is to add as little as the assessment justifies.

Clinical focus

  • Separating volume loss, descent and muscle pull as the cause of the fold
  • The jawline and the position of the tissue above the fold
  • Chin projection in profile, and when the fold is really a structural reading
  • Staged conservative volume in an area where material accumulates over years
  • Revision assessment when repeated treatment has made the lower face heavier

Three mechanisms, one fold

The fold beside the mouth is usually volume loss, descent and muscle pull acting together, and the three are answered in different ways. Filling a fold that is being created by descent, or lifting a face whose fold is mainly volume loss, produces an improvement that satisfies nobody. Working out which dominates is most of the decision.

Shaoliang Wang

Shaoliang Wang (王韶亮)

Director, Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center · Vice Chief Physician, Associate Professor, Doctor of Medicine

Center leadership · surgical standards and complex revision

Dr. Shaoliang Wang is Director of the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital. Within the team he provides the surgical perspective and the tertiary-hospital backstop — the assessment when an operation is the honest answer, and the hospital-level care for the rare complication that needs it.

Within this site his part is the standard the plan has to meet and the backstop behind it. Where a lifting operation is being considered, or where previous treatment has left the lower face heavier than it began, that work sits within his part of the service.

Clinical focus

  • Center leadership and multidisciplinary case review
  • Surgical assessment when an operation is the honest answer to descent or excess skin
  • Hospital-based care for the rare complication that needs theatre-level management
Ke He

Ke He (何锞)

Deputy Director & Head of Skin & Laser Aesthetics · Attending Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending

Skin and laser aesthetics · skin quality and staged injectable plans

Dr. Ke He is Deputy Director and head of skin and laser aesthetics within the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital. Within the team her role is the device and injectable assessment, and the honest referral when a problem needs an operation rather than a needle.

Within this site her part is the skin itself and the injectable plan: assessing how much of the appearance the surface accounts for, planning small staged steps rather than a single correction, and judging the result against standardised photographs over time.

Clinical focus

  • Device and injectable assessment before any treatment plan
  • Staged planning judged against standardised photographs
  • Honest referral when a problem needs an operation rather than a needle
Yongbo Jia

Yongbo Jia (贾勇波)

Deputy Director & Head of Dermatology · Vice Chief Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending

Dermatology · conditions that change the lower face

Dr. Yongbo Jia is a dermatologist within the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital. Within the team his role is medical skin assessment — diagnosing and managing pigment and barrier conditions, and treating skin that a device or an injection has irritated.

Within this site his part is the fold that is not an ageing change: skin disease, inflammation and the conditions around the mouth that alter how the area looks and that have to be identified before any treatment of the fold is planned.

Clinical focus

  • Medical skin assessment behind injectable treatment plans
  • Diagnosis and management of pigment and barrier conditions
  • Dermatologic care of skin after irritation or a delayed reaction

Start with what is actually folding

Arrange an assessment. We will look at the fold at rest and in movement, at where the tissue above it now sits and at the chin, and say which of the three mechanisms is doing the folding.
